Foodie Pen Pals - September

Glorious!

OMG! What a great month of Foodie Pen Pals :) My fabulous pen pal this month was Deborah from Gourmet Mom. Check out her blog it's is great! Deborah and I have been pen pal friends since last May when I sent her a package. This month we were paired together so we each sent a package across the country! I happened to mention that one of my fave childhood treats were Snowballs - marshmallow covered in chocolate covered in coconut....mmmm. And what was one of the first things I saw when I opened her very pretty package? Yes, that's right - Snowballs! I squealed...seriously I did. Heaven.

And then to add to all that happiness, Deborah sent even more great treats.. all of them amazing...but I have to say her homemade cookies blew me away! No flour, refined sugar but full of delicious goodness...pumpkin seeds, raw honey, almond butter, sesame seeds, oats...check out the recipe here.

I brought a curly wurly to work and at least 3 people commented that they used to eat them when they were kids (they used to be called wig wags). My kids loved sharing in the chocolate, cookies and treats. My son absolutely loved the chips and puffs!

Thanks Deborah - you are an amazing pen pal friend!

Foodie Pen Pals - August

What an amazing pen pal package!

Another great month in Lean Green Bean's Foodie Pen Pal program! This month my pen pal is Myra from Itago Sa Bato. She's really sweet and seems like one of those people who is just do passionate about life! She lives in Alberta but has lived here in Vancouver and I think she's planning on coming back eventually  (and really who wouldn't - British Columbia is one of the most beautiful places in the world!).

Myra sent a fabulous package to me. She was thoughtful enough to include things that my whole family would enjoy. There were Angry Bird gummies and granola bites that the kids gobbled up. The hot sauce is fantastic - especially on eggs! The bison bites were a first for me. I kept the chocolate for myself - it was delicious ;) I can't wait to try the soup mix - I'm waiting for the first crisp fall day to make it. I also love the idea of the spice mixes which I've seen but haven't tried. The Yiabar and the Thinaddictives are going in my gym bag for those days I need a little extra energy.

Myra, thanks for such a great Foodie Pen Pal package!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM - WE CAN ALWAYS USE MORE CANADIAN FOODIES SO JOIN TODAY!!

PS - I forgot to post about my July Foodie Pen Pal package :( so I want to apologize to Lindsey because I absolutely loved the package! Thank you so much Lindsey.

Foodie PenPals - January

Foodie PenPals. Have you heard of it? It's a great program run by Lindsay over at the Lean Green Bean. She started it in September 2011 with 30 participants and it has grown to over 1300! Now that's success! In a nutshell each participant receives a foodie pen pal to send a little foodie related package that shouldn't cost more than $15 (not including shipping). It can be home made goods, local  food items, or other foodie related treats. Then each person sending a package also receives a similar package (though not from the person they sent one too). Organizing it must take a lot of dedication and effort and Lindsay does a great job of pulling everything together!

My third month of Foodie pen pals and I still love it :) this month my pen pal is Candice from Ontario.

Candice sent a great package filled with amazing treats! White tea - which was perfect because I was fighting a cold the day it arrived! Also, a great stash of chocolate, apple cider mix and granola bars! All were perfect for a busy Mom on the run! Thanks Candice!

Foodie Penpals - October!

Foodie PenPals. Have you heard of it? It's a great program run by Lindsay over at the Lean Green Bean. She started it in September 2011 with 30 participants and it has grown to over 1300! My first Foodie Penpal package! Thanks Danielle!

This month was my first time participating in the program and it was so a lot of  fun. I loved going to Granville Island and buying little things for the package I sent to Kayla at KitchenofKy. And just as much fun was receiving my food pen pal package from Danielle of Eating Running Living

Danielle sent some amazing items - none of which I had tried before! The chocolate lasted about 5 minutes before I tore it open. It was fantastic - and really smooth - yum. My favorite thing by far was the Chicago style popcorn. Have you ever tried it? It sounds crazy but it's caramel corn and cheddar popcorn mixed together. It tastes amazing! In fact, we went out and bought another bag a couple of days later :)

I didn't share the chocolate or the popcorn with the kids but I did let them try the other bars. They loved those and I only ended up with a bite of each! We all loved the granola with dried strawberries and pieces of chocolate and the naan crackers were great with hummous!

Thanks Danielle for such a great introduction to Foodie Pen Pals!
